Professor Luciano Floridi: Digital Ethics

Updated: Aug 7, 2023

The "Democracy, Sustainability and Corporations" conference was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris on February 21st, 2023, as part of the "Global Conference on internet democracy." A Citizens’ Platform on Climate Change and a Sustainable World event co-organised with The Map Report, the aim was to discuss the real needs for efficient and effective development of corporate sustainability.

Luciano Floridi, professor at Oxford University and University of Bologna brings up a unique point of view: being sustainable, adaptable or resilient is not enough. Following the concept of sustainability will not save our planet because it is the minimum effort that we can put to improve the current situation. He suggests that we need more and more regulations, both for the environment and for the internet with the final goal to stop spreading misinformation, disinformation and fake news. He underlines how digital technology was not created to destroy anything. It is up to us to use it in the proper way and make the most out of it.
